[Rin answers! He takes a moment to get over to his door, but after a few moments of shuffling he gets over there and opens it. He looks a little pale, and he's also genuinely surprised to see Molly here to so he startles a bit.]
Oh, um- hi?
[He's definitely not angry anymore. If anything, he looks a bit apprehensive. Like he expects to get yelled at or punched in the next five seconds.]
[ he doesn't seem angry either, or in much of a yelling mood. just tired, mostly. sleepless and anxious. he'll stay at the door for now, leaning on the frame of it. ]
So was it just that you knew about Diluc from weeks ago, or that you know who killed Kaeya too?
[He might not be saying that with venom, but it actually cuts Rin pretty deep. And for a moment he scowls and starts to open his mouth like he's about to say something Really Rude, but he stops himself and rubs at his face while he sighs.]
Look, just- I get it. Nobody's in control of this, and everyone's mad about it because people we all care about keep dyin', there isn't even any feeling of 'justice was served' because it's not like the killers wanted to it in the first place, and we can't even go yell at the person who's actually at fault here. It sucks! And everyone's just tryin' to do the best they can.
I don't really wanna fight about it anymore. Even if you don't believe in what I try to see in other people, it's what I'm gonna keep doing. I just...that's all I have to offer, you know? I'm kind of an idiot otherwise.
[ he looks confused for a second, and then tilts his head. ]
I think you're missing my point here, which is that it isn't about believing or not believing in what you see in other people. I think Sheila is the best of us by far, and that's what I can see in others. You didn't have some special insight into his heart, you just knew already, and when you tried to say that somehow he was different, more elevated, or somehow above all this just because he loved someone too - that he couldn't have done it because you just happened to believe that and it counted more than the person we love, it didn't fuckin' land. Get it?
Diluc had murder in his eyes and he was definitely gonna try to kill whoever killed Kaeya if we found them.
[Or, well. Hua Cheng and YJH were ready to intercept him, but midtrial attempts definitely would have happened.]
If he had been the one who had killed Kaeya, he would've been more...fuck, what's the word...somber? Not as angry as he was.
That's what I was trying to say, but I couldn't get the words out right. I don't think he's someone special who can overcome the shadows with 'the power of love' or something, he just wasn't acting right to have killed Kaeya specifically.
That is very different from what you were saying, friend.
Anyway, if you say so. I'd be real careful with those assumptions, considering the shadows. Kazunari was in total disbelief when we found him, and had actively helped solve his own damned murder the whole time. Suppose you've spoken to Diluc after he did his, but I'm not sure how much control they actually have.
[Rin's going to move on there, because he would rather share what he knows now that he feels like he can talk about it.]
Diluc did explain it some, yeah. He said it was like...he knew the shadow was there, and he knew he had to do his best not to get caught. He said that, for him at least, it was like he knew he had to do exactly what the shadow wanted to protect his hostage and he felt like it would be really really bad if he tried to even test that a little bit. And it was definitely influencing his mind some, like he couldn't have given a sign he was possessed at all. But he was still in control, and the stuff he did not related to his trial was all him. So it was kinda like a 'being forced to act like you're okay while a knife's being held to your back' kinda thing.
I dunno how that compares to any of the other killers still alive though, so...
[He probably should have been asking people about it while they were in gay baby jail whoops.]
[Hello Molly! Rin is at the restaurant, and he seems to be considering the menu. What food could he possibly be thinking about eating at this hour? Such a mystery.
But when he sees Molly he'll nod to him. Hey there.]
[Molly your POISONING!!! But Rin will remember that now.]
If they have sports drinks here, that'll help keep your energy up while your stomach settles. Oatmeal and bananas are good foods to eat that shouldn't upset your stomach, but only eat a little bit at a time in case you get sick.
[Someone is used to taking care of upset tummies.]
I'm not gonna eat right now, I'm trying to decide what to take to Dimitri.
[He's not sure what Dimitri would like, or what he could even eat if he's upset right now. But he'll pick something eventually.]
And no worries, yeah? The stuff you were hiding, you've got your reasons for it. If it's not related to the trial then it shouldn't have to be brought up in front of everyone.
I guess I'd just choose what I'd want for a last meal. Strawberry cake. Danishes from Nicodranas. That terrible stew Yasha used to make with the spiders.
[ He makes a face almost like he got socked in the gut. ]
[ HE DOES look straight up nauseated again, but. Mostly at himself. ]
I was lying. I was lying my arse off. And I didn't really have a plan and I wasn't exactly saying things that weren't true, but-- You should know. And I know by telling you I'm basically telling everyone.
Rin glances away now, as he often does when he's not completely sure if what he's about to say is the right thing to say.]
When we had the clue and were trying to decide what case to use it on, nearly everyone who defended you last week said to use it on Claude's case. I was guessing that they could see something about Emet-Selch's killer that I couldn't, we're never that unanimous in deciding on what to do with clues, but it wasn't until yours and Harrow's answers to the locket questions that I really began to hear that part of me that was saying 'look into this more, something's wrong here'. But when you said you would explain later and we only had minutes to go, I just accepted it. There wasn't enough proof to say it was you, and 'this is what my heart's telling me' hasn't exactly gotten good responses before. And...maybe I wanted to believe it too. That it wasn't you, and you hadn't gone through that shadow stuff.
[He's not mad, and he definitely doesn't blame Molly. He just feels sad, mostly.]
I don't think many - if any - knew anything about it being me, honestly. There's no conspiracy around me, I just ... got lucky.
I think it only clicked for Harrow herself at that last second there. Could have just been we didn't have most of the shite I'd stirred up until after the item was already used, so it made more sense to use it on the case with more.
[The trial is over, and none of them had control over their actions anyway.]
That's what happened with Kaeya and Diluc too. When Diluc had that injury, Kaeya just agreed with whatever Diluc was saying to protect him. So I don't blame her for protecting you, anybody'd do it to protect someone close to them.
...actually, if you're telling everyone about this, then there might be something you can do next week. I was gonna try it this week if we were stuck, but the clue helped out a lot and we got two of the cases pretty much figured out so there wasn't a need to try it. But back in my game, if it was getting close to the end and we were really stuck, one thing we used to do was ask the Watchers- they were like our version of the Staff- if all of the killers were new. They could get away with telling us that much, since it wasn't exact numbers or anything. Just 'yes, all the killers are new this week' or 'no, not all of the killers are new this week.' If nothing else, if we get stuck and ask the Staff that, then depending on the answer we might be able to count some people out from being suspects at that trial.

Diluc told me he killed weeks ago, right after his trial. That's why I was saying I was sure Diluc didn't kill. But I don't know who killed Kaeya, no.

[ he sounds way too tired to mean this with any actual venom. it's more just a sigh. ]
... I didn't mean what I said about Diluc. I don't care what he did.

[Somehow he managed not to slip up about Diluc for two whole weeks!]
I wouldn't go telling other people your business after the trial anyway. That's rude.
