[Yeah instead it's like a very annoying whirlwind of bad at emotions energy in here. There is no sincerity in this group to cut the spice with. Wrinkling his nose more, but at least it gets rid of the Lucien-esque expression.]
Eugh. Woof. That's worse. Don't like that. [Turning around, gesturing over his shoulder to the seats around him at the table.] Going to sit down or what?
[Beau's apologies are good and funny and honestly endearing. I mean, it's better than his apologies, which are always just [footage not found]. He'll go sit down, then, across from Mollymauk, with room for Beau to sit next to him.]
Well, we might as well compare notes and work with one another, even if we are only three assholes.
[Beau's apologies are actually very endearing and he liked it a lot, which is why he's letting go of the punching thing now. Or maybe he'll just bring it up forever to torture her.]
Spring. Don't really know anything useful yet either, I'm afraid. Can match a few names to faces if you like.
What I mean is that we've discovered we all have slightly different memories of things. Beau remembers a little longer than Mollymauk, and I remember a little longer than Beauregard.
[So that's good to establish outright.]
He last remembers around when we fought Lorenzo. I already let him know, uhm, that we were able to find our missing friends. As for the dorms, I'm in Fall. It's the best one. We have two cats.
[she pulls out the konpeito and puts it on the table. it's up for grabs for sharing. and also there's a flask of whiskey that she puts out, too, which looks suspiciously like nott's.]
It doesn't count if it's the catgirl. [she tells caleb, amused.] The memories thing is fucking concerning but I guess there's not a lot to be done about it right now. Uh, other than that, I know this place loops when you go too far off grounds, and people pass out if they get too close to the construction going on out there.
[Grabbing the whiskey flask at warp speed, taking a way too long drink. Is the flask even still never ending. Better hope it is. After that, shaking his head and coughing for a second, but it seems to help his mood radically.]
Bunch of prejudged assholes too, for the record. Not that it'd be your problem, you're both human.
You shouldn't be used to it. [beau grouches, taking the flask. she offers caleb some, too.]
I don't know who you guys are talking about. I haven't seen any other cats around here. Actually, there's a lot of places where magic just doesn't exist? Or tieflings, or orcs, or whatever.
Way of the world, way of the world. Sometimes you get called a monster, sometimes, free ice cream.
[He seems mostly just bemused at Beau's reaction to this, and how she jumped to the defensive immediately. Mollified, if you will.]
Seems that way. Some places keep minotaurs in labyrinths and tell their children to run at the sight of a tiefling though. Bit of a mix. Fucking odd, mostly.
A lot of people from very strange places, but a lot of spellcasters, too. I haven't tried to advertise to strangers that I'm completely tapped, but it seems like a lot of people in the same boat.
[only beau is allowed to be rude to molly, she has decided. absently beau leans on caleb, digging her welcome letter out of her pocket.]
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm willing to bet my ki is blocked off. [....... she takes a big swig of whiskey at the "run at the sight of a tiefling" mention.] I've seen Caleb's already - what's your letter look like, Molly?
Leaning over too to look at it, pulling the letter down a bit and sort of scanning it, squinting.]
That's what it says? [But he quickly follows a thread of the conversation instead.] Oh, well, if you want a book, I can just grab you some. They're just sitting out there.
Whatever they have would be good, if it's no trouble. I'll return when it's done. Does it make sense for us to just go through all of these letters, now that we're all together?
[He doesn't really know why Molly has obviously not bothered to read or look at his, but it's not out of the question he doesn't know how?]
[... huh. well, she's not going to call attention to it. she almost does, she like - opens her mouth to be like why the fuck didn't you read it, and then... closes her mouth. character development!
she tilts her head for just a moment, and then sets her letter out on the table too, just for grabs.]
There's a couple of rules that overlap? Like clean up after yourself, you can only get into your dorm with an ID, the Dorm Wars thing. We should probably find a Summer to compare notes with.
I'm still uneasy about the mention of not wanting to be "the last ones left" in Caleb's letter. There's something about that phrase that puts me off. Winter talks about victory but like, the way they talk about it makes me think it's more like a game.
Mine is the shortest, from Luke - it goes on and on a little grumpy, with rules like clean up after yourselves, take baths, don't fight in the dorm, don't smoke or do drugs, don't drink underage, go to class. But then he says 'I can't help you if you don't talk to me,' and what Beauregard said - 'There’s a Dorm War, so take care of each other here, or else I’ll make you regret it. But that also doesn’t mean you get to mistreat anyone else in the other dorms. Don’t do it. We want to win, not be the last ones left.'
So, you know, Beauregard and I had no idea what any of that meant. Her letter from Miss Viola is much longer, but most of it is a little, uhm, just as superfluous as Luke's rules. She says she could not greet us in person because she is so busy, but she is a doctoral candidate 'originally from the capitol.' She invites her students to come meet her face to face eventually, and that she'll be able to answer messages soon, but in the meantime to speak with Principal Bear, who is very friendly. It also says there are events to come and more of the campus will open soon.
And then at the end, she also mentions the Dorm Wars, but a little less ominously. She makes it sound like a friendly competition - she says it will be fun, and there will be events and ways to earn points, and she thinks Winter has a chance to win.
Your letter is from, uhm, Chad, and says a lot of the same things. But the only mention of Dorm Wars is at the beginning, where it says it's upcoming. The rest of the letter is a little like Luke - don't lose your ID card, don't do drugs, don't bother him while drunk, clean up after yourself. . . between Winter and Spring, there are a couple things about not going out alone at night and staying bundled up, so there might be significance to that. Chad seems a little lazy to me.
I want to talk to Luke most of all, I think. He's the only one to say anything about being careful, and not hurting anyone.
[He does pull the other letters over to look at them - though the Winter one just earns a very off-put face and he seems to give up after about ten seconds of trying and failing. Something about when it's a long bit of dense reading seems to give him a lot of trouble. Fall is easier, but he's obviously mouthing words to himself as he starts to pick through it. But the explanation is easier to listen to, so he just abandons them both for that instead. Nodding, tapping his nails over all of the letters once they're done.]
And ... do we want to be on different sides of this War?
gently, beau nudges caleb, glancing at him with a flash of a grateful look. and then she glances at molly.]
It depends. [she says, rubbing at her neck.] My gut instinct is no. We don't. But - it might be good to stay on different sides to gather more information.
We don't know what it's gonna end up being. A couple people I talked to mentioned Dorm Wars are typically just escalating pranks between dorms in schools where they come from. They could just be that.
[He seems a little confused by the reason for that, but turning his attention back towards Molly as well.]
I agree with Beauregard - for now, if everyone in different dorms is learning different things, it's a good idea for us to hear all three versions. And maybe make ourselves a friend in Summer, too. It seems like we're allowed to switch, so if it starts getting tricky, that's something we can do.
The pranks - that's what it sounds like it's getting at to me, too. But in the same way that. . . Beauregard mentioned something like, it all looks innocent on purpose, to be disarming. Some friendly hazing like you might do in the schoolyard, or maybe a cover for something worse?

Don't worry about it. Nothing I'm not used to.

[Somehow, despite all this, he finds this funny.]
No mention of what Dorm Wars are. . . oh. You get books? We don't have books.

Winter wrote us three pages of instructions and is the only one who didn't tell us off for drugs, which is really funny.
