I'm still uneasy about the mention of not wanting to be "the last ones left" in Caleb's letter. There's something about that phrase that puts me off. Winter talks about victory but like, the way they talk about it makes me think it's more like a game.
Mine is the shortest, from Luke - it goes on and on a little grumpy, with rules like clean up after yourselves, take baths, don't fight in the dorm, don't smoke or do drugs, don't drink underage, go to class. But then he says 'I can't help you if you don't talk to me,' and what Beauregard said - 'There’s a Dorm War, so take care of each other here, or else I’ll make you regret it. But that also doesn’t mean you get to mistreat anyone else in the other dorms. Don’t do it. We want to win, not be the last ones left.'
So, you know, Beauregard and I had no idea what any of that meant. Her letter from Miss Viola is much longer, but most of it is a little, uhm, just as superfluous as Luke's rules. She says she could not greet us in person because she is so busy, but she is a doctoral candidate 'originally from the capitol.' She invites her students to come meet her face to face eventually, and that she'll be able to answer messages soon, but in the meantime to speak with Principal Bear, who is very friendly. It also says there are events to come and more of the campus will open soon.
And then at the end, she also mentions the Dorm Wars, but a little less ominously. She makes it sound like a friendly competition - she says it will be fun, and there will be events and ways to earn points, and she thinks Winter has a chance to win.

The rest of the letter is a little like Luke - don't lose your ID card, don't do drugs, don't bother him while drunk, clean up after yourself. . . between Winter and Spring, there are a couple things about not going out alone at night and staying bundled up, so there might be significance to that. Chad seems a little lazy to me.
I want to talk to Luke most of all, I think. He's the only one to say anything about being careful, and not hurting anyone.

We don't know what it's gonna end up being. A couple people I talked to mentioned Dorm Wars are typically just escalating pranks between dorms in schools where they come from. They could just be that.

I agree with Beauregard - for now, if everyone in different dorms is learning different things, it's a good idea for us to hear all three versions. And maybe make ourselves a friend in Summer, too. It seems like we're allowed to switch, so if it starts getting tricky, that's something we can do.
