[He does nod at the second part though, expression tightening a little. Stopping in front of his room to dig out the phone and start trying to open the door.]
I agree. And-- Well. Human crowded places haven't worked out particularly well for me in the past.
[That he doesn't immediately answer. Going in and just sitting himself right on the floor in the middle of the little living area. There's a couch? It's fine.]
Somewhere on Wildemount, I'm sure. If you want details about the place, you can ask Beau, she's better at that than I am.
[Shuffling the deck as he goes, mostly just laughing a bit at any judgmental tone.]
Is the information not in that device?
[Then he shrugs.]
I don't live any one particular place. The circus traveled around, then the adventuring group did as well. All the better, I say, not particularly a "roots" person.
[She blinks, though, a little bit surprised. They've talked about how they aren't from the same place, but it's still strange to hear about something so different than what she knows.]
And... You didn't have to do anything to earn the right to travel around?
[She pauses at the question, a little bit surprised again.]
Stuck? No... There's nowhere else to go. [Sometimes your entire setting is just one tower.] But, if you want to earn the right to go to a higher floor, you have to pass a test. That's why it seemed strange to me that you can travel so easily... Ah, it must be nice.
[He picks a little bit at the front of the brightly colored coat he’s wearing, before veering back into. Whatever Endorsi’s got going on. What the fuck.]
Usually it's to test strength. Strategy, too, most of the time. But nearly all of them involve a fight. Oh, but don't worry, you have to agree to it... And you can stop at any time if you don't want to take the next test they describe.
I can handle myself in a fight, certainly, but I will say - being able to move about is one of my greatest pleasures. I’d hope the same for you one day, you know.
[Ah - right. The cards. He’d stopped shuffling in the moment. But then just quickly plonks one down.
A skeletal rider on a pale horse.]
. . . Ah. That’s a little on the nose. Seriously?
Crawling out of the grave in my experience. Not my finest moment. And the card doesn’t have to be that exact. Could be simply signaling a change, a new direction because a past goal needs to be discarded, and I’ve certainly had some changes recently.
[. . . Brushing past this by putting down a second card. This time, a woman sits on a regal throne, sword in hand. Upside down.]
The Queen of Swords. Seems I’ve been a bit careless.
They have different meanings based on the way they turn. The direction can indicate a different card all together - do you remember the Eye? Reversed, it is the Hand. Obscuring, possibly, or protective. Holding you safely above the raging ocean, or threatening to drop you into the water. But perhaps while there is safety in the palm, there’s some truth in the dark water. It could be any number of things!
[Smiling, lightly.]
. . . Which of course is why I’m paid coin to help guide those who don’t have the same sight that I do.
As for her. Hm. When she’s upright, she knows her own self, steadfast. Decisions made. Or maybe digging into an argument too deeply and should know when to let go some.
Right now, she’s reversed, the sword faces down. Perhaps I’ve been a little loose with what I’ve revealed to strangers, or received some emotional news thats unseated some a little.

[She reaches up to touch it for a moment as she follows, though she looks puzzled.]
Tiefling... I don't think I've heard of it. Is that what they call people with horns where you're from?
no subject
[Though he nods.]
This place is mostly humans, so I thought you might be.
no subject
If it wasn't an insult, it doesn't bother me. It's strange that there's so little variety, though! It's not what I'm used to.

[stop
Anyways, she glances towards him, curious.]
Why's that? They're not usually particularly strong, are they?
no subject
Because I used to make money by trying to attract people to see a show, not run from it.
no subject
Do you live in the outer part of the tower, then? What floor?
no subject
Do I whodewhatdehuh?
no subject
I wonder if I'm the only one... Well, I guess it would make sense. Most people wouldn't want to leave. Where are you from, then?
no subject

[He's been nice to her, so she sounds maybe 10% less judgmental than she would otherwise. She takes a seat as well.]
no subject

No. A few forged papers for some borders and those weren't difficult to obtain. Gustav was quite handy with that sort of thing.
A princess stuck in a tower, then? [maam your cards]
no subject
[She pauses at the question, a little bit surprised again.]

A test? What sort of test?
no subject
[She's glancing towards the cards, though.]
Still, we came here for a reason, didn't we?
no subject
[Ah - right. The cards. He’d stopped shuffling in the moment. But then just quickly plonks one down.
A skeletal rider on a pale horse.]
. . . Ah. That’s a little on the nose. Seriously?
no subject
How so? Oh, is it because of the dying thing...?
[Just. Casually. Horrible. Someday she will remember that she was supposed to read his profile to him.]
no subject
. . . That’s on there?
no subject

[But she'll turn her attention to the card.]
Why is she faced that way?
no subject
[Smiling, lightly.]

[Thoughtfully:]
Hm... Dropped a bomb on anyone recently?
