I just felt like if I'd been better at my job it wouldn't have turned out like that. Like... defending people isn't what I do, but I should've at least been able to accuse someone I thought was more suspicious, and show evidence why.
...Though I guess now I know I was wrong about the person I thought it really was back then too.
... I'm sure you've heard it, but you really shouldn't blame yourself for all of that. You can't control all of us, can't know everything in the moment when it's all happening. Mistakes happen, but you didn't make one. You were defending him. And I doubt Bucky would want you to be doing that to yourself either.
