[yeah, she’s just curled up on a chair in the common room, jotting stuff into her notebook.]
Still feeling it? Guess I’ll take that as a compliment.
[if rita were less of a jerk, she’d probably apologize or something. oh well. instead, she considers something, and then...]
How’s that other wound doing? You’re not about to keel over without warning, are you?

I'm a mage, so I normally rely on magic for everything.
Wish I could say I have no idea what an adventurer's life is like, but my research tends to lead me into plenty of dangerous places. It's kind of annoying, even if it usually pays off in the end.

Well, yeah. In Aspio, you have to go through a certification process to get recognized as a mage and given full access to the Empire's resources for magic research. Part of it involves writing a thesis, which gets reviewed by your peers. There are periodic re-evaluations, too, so you can't just get a license and sit on it without ever publishing your research.
Yep. It took years of study to get where I am now.
I’ve heard of people with innate magic abilities, but it’s incredibly rare where I’m from. If it surprised you, then I take it it’s not the norm for, [a vague gesture at him.] whatever you are?

Hmph...
[he's right, it's not satisfying to go without an explanation. also, she maybe just flipped to a different page and jotted down some quick notes? while looking at him? it's fine.]
So what's a tiefling? I already gathered you don't like getting lumped in with monsters. Unfortunately, where I'm from, that's what people call anything that isn't clearly human, Krityan, or a domesticated animal.

Hm... Well, I guess that's good enough.
[In contrast to her neverending thirst for magic deets, an explanation of "sometimes people are just purple" is satisfying enough on this matter.]
Seeing as we're all from different worlds, I guess I should be more surprised that there are so many humans.
