It may simply be that the points are only counted while the person is there. I know they also get points for having vouchers spent with them - this is why some of them will undercut others, and you cannot necessarily ask one what another will charge. So if Viola gives us a discount, but we then leave her dorm the next week and we are no longer counted towards her total, she would have lost points she would have otherwise had from the discount.
As far as I can tell what they want is benign; the pocket dimension.
I don't know what Chad meant, but Luke told me that the prize for winning the Dorm Wars is a pocket dimension. The impression I got is something a little like the tower - a customizable space you can invite people into. Viola mentioned something similar once, I believe. Luke said he wanted to use his to allow us all a safe place to visit one another once we return home.

The dome is rudimentary, though, just a protective bubble that lasts for eight hours where we can't be disturbed. The tower exists on a demi plane, accessible through a portal, but only those I invite inside can enter, so it is even more secure than the dome. It is more spacious and can be customized with bedrooms and living areas and so on.
