I travel with a thief, a former knight, an apothecary, a scholar, a cleric, a merchant and a huntress. The huntress also keeps company with what she calls a snow leopard, a beast as white as snow with dark spots and quite fearsome unless she likes you.

They all have their reasons to travel, and upon learning that some of us had similar destinations, we decided to travel together. It does result in fights with those who would... ah, stand in the way of their goals, but we're accustomed to that.
I suppose that's how most groups end up traveling together. I know it was the same for me. Just happened to be heading the same direction, things are certainly easier as a group in certain circumstances. Especially a fight.
